Gardener’s House Penzance

Penzance is in Cornwall, right on the coast and home to the Gardener’s House. A lovely historic building in Morab Gardens that has been remodelled and turned into a beautiful community space that runs workshops, hosts talks and events and also has a café and sensory garden open to the public. I was brought onboard to create a set of illustrations for the branding. This is one of the loveliest projects I have ever worked on and I am not just saying that because I got to go to Penzance and stay in a hotel that was modelled after a boat and overlooked the harbour (see photographic evidence below!) Seeing so much thought, care and design thinking go into a space that is now being used by actual members of the local community was amazing. It’s a sustainable, accessible and most of all incredibly beautiful space and it made me realise how rare it is to see something like this. I’m a huge fan of third spaces, especially as they disappear from city life more and more so I am very grateful to have been a part of this project. It was really nice to work with a rougher, more organic line to make sure the drawings fit in with their surroundings and I’m really enjoying seeing how they are being used in the space and on different products.
